Fever
A fever is usually when your body temperature is 37.8 degrees Celsius (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit) or higher. You may feel warm, cold or shivery.

FOODS TO EAT MORE OF
  • Most don't feel like eating when feverish, but try to incorporate plenty of fluids: including water, tea, smoothies, and thin broths/soups containing the ingredients below.
  • Fruit: bananas, cantaloupe, clementines, grapefruit,  grapes, kiwi, lemons, limes, oranges, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, tangerines, watermelon
  • Vegetables: artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, corn, kale, peas, spinach, sprouts
  • Yogurt, tofu, mushrooms, garlic, ginger

FOODS TO AVOID OR MINIMIZE
  • Excessive sugar/salt
  • Heavy, rich, greasy foods

ESSENTIAL OILS 
  • Bergamot, cardamom, fennel, fir, ginger, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, Peppermint, tea tree (on forehead, back of neck, bottom of feet, temples).

HERBAL
  • Birch, boneset, buchu, burdock, calendula/marigold, echinacea, elder, eucalyptus, feverfew, ginger, gotu kola, hyssop, Japanese honeysuckle, lemon balm, linden, passionflower, raspberry, skullcap,  stinging nettle, willow bark, yarrow
  • Try a tea made of basil and gotu kola.
  • Catnip Tea
  • Yarrow Bath: Add 1 cup fresh or dried yarrow (blossoms and/or leaves) to 1 gallon of boiling water. Remove from heat, cover, and let steep for at least 30 minutes. Strain, and add the water to a warm bath.
  • Yarrow Tea: Cover 1/4 cup fresh (or 1/2-1 Tablespoon dried) herb with boiling water.  Let steep for 5-15 minutes. Strain & drink. Sweeten with honey if desired.

NATURAL
  • Put chopped raw onions on the soles of the feet overnight (wear socks over it to keep them in place). If you have sensitive skin, put a thin layer of cloth between onions and skin to keep from blistering). 
  • A bath in strong, warm vinegar water (add a little dry mustard if desired). 
  • Mix 2 Tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 Tablespoon honey in 1 cup water and drink.  
  • Rub vinegar on forehead, temples, palms and bottoms of feet every 30 minutes. 
  • Mix 1/8 teaspoon sugar and 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar and 1 teaspoon water.  Take every 15 minutes. 
  • Soak a pair of thick socks in pure vinegar and put on.  Put a dry pair of warmed socks over the wet ones (to keep feet warm), or soak feet in hot vinegar water.
  • Make a poultice of fresh noni leaves and place on forehead.

SUPPLEMENTS
  • Echinacea: 200 mg 3-5 times daily.
  • Vitamin C: 2,000 mg 3 times daily until symptoms improve; if needed beyond 5 days, reduce dose to 1,000 mg 3 times daily (reduce if it causes diarrhea). A different source says up to 500 mg daily but combine with a zinc supplement.

Not all recipes are nutritionally perfect, but the options below are a great way to start incorporating beneficial foods into your diet in delicious ways. Always try to buy organic, and feel free to make substitutions to accommodate gluten-free, vegan, etc diets.
