Frosted Sugar Cookies

DIETS: LC VT
Makes about 4 dozen
Time: 4 hours

Ingredients: 
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2-1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Toppings of choice: sprinkles, food coloring, frosting (store-bought or try this Creamy Frosting or Glaze Frosting from scratch)

Instructions: 
  • Beat butter,  powdered sugar, almond extract, vanilla extract and egg in large bowl with mixer on medium speed.
  • Mix in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hrs.
  • Preheat oven to 375F and grease cookie sheet.
  • Divide dough in half. Roll each half to desired thickness on lightly floured surface (around 1/4").
  • Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters of choice and place on cookie sheet 2" apart.
  • Bake 7-8min or until edges are light brown.
  • Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack; cool completely.
  • Frost and decorate as desired.
