Toppings of choice: sprinkles, food coloring, frosting (store-bought or there are a few homemade versions below):
Creamy Frosting
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 Tablespoon water or 1-2 Tablespoons milk
A few drops of food coloring if desired
Mix together until smooth
Glaze Frosting
2 cups powdered sugar
2 Tablespoons water
2 Tablespoons light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Mix together until smooth
Instructions:
Beat butter, powdered sugar, almond extract, vanilla extract and egg in large bowl with mixer on medium speed.
Mix in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hrs.
Preheat oven to 375F and grease cookie sheet.
Divide dough in half. Roll each half to desired thickness on lightly floured surface (around 1/4").
Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters of choice and place on cookie sheet 2" apart.
Bake 7-8min or until edges are light brown.
Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack; cool completely.
Frost and decorate as desired.
