Mojito

The mojito was historically used for medicinal purposes. Pirates created a drink with sugar, lime, mint and aguardiente (early rum) to treat scurvy and dysentery. When aguardiente was switched out for real rum, the classic mojito officially made its debut!



Ingredients: 
  • 4 sprigs fresh  mint
  • 3/4 ounce freshly-squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ounce simple syrup
  • 1.5 ounces white rum
  • Soda Water
 
Instructions: 
  • Muddle 3 sprigs of mint, lime juice and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker
  • Add rum and shake with ice
  • Strain into a highball glass filled with ice
  • Top with soda water and garnish with remaining mint sprig
