DIETS: LC VT
Servings: 5 dozen
Time: 2.5 hours

Ingredients:
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour (sift before measuring)
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup light molasses
  • Confectioners’ Sugar

Instructions:
  • Place flour, baking soda, allspice, cinnamon, cloves and ginger in a sifter. Sift dry ingredients together over a piece of waxed paper or bowl. Set flour mixture aside. Place butter in a medium-sized bowl. Add granulated sugar and the egg. Beat butter mixture until light and fluffy.
  • Using a wooden spoon beat in flour mixture alternately with molasses beginning and ending with flour mixture. Cover dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
