  • Aloe Vera Gel: Apply gel liberally to the skin as needed.
  • Lemon balm. St. John's Wort
  • Vitamin E: Apply topical oil for acute attacks.
  • Flaxseed Oil: 1 Tablespoon (14 grams) daily for flare ups (can be mixed with food - take in the morning).
  • Oatmeal Bath: Colloidal oatmeal or ground oatmeal in bathtub (several cups).
  • Capsaicin Ointment: Don't apply to active/open sores - use only for lingering pain after shingles have healed.
  • Apply vinegar and honey 4 times daily to affected area. 
  • Pat on full strength vinegar.  At least 4 times daily.

  • Vitamin E: For post-shingles pain, take 400 IU orally twice daily.
  • Vitamin C/Flavonoids: 1,000 mg vitamin C and 500 mg flavonoids 3 times daily (reduce if it causes diarrhea).
  • Vitamin A: 25,000 IU twice daily for acute attacks (up to 10 days) - pregnant women should not exceed 5,000 IU daily.
  • Echinacea/Goldenseal: 200 mg echinacea and 125 mg goldenseal 4 times daily (use only during acute stage).
  • Lysine: 1,000 mg L-lysine 3 times daily only during acute stage (take on empty stomach - do NOT take with milk).
  • Selenium: 600 mcg daily only during acute stage (don't exceed 600 mcg daily - higher doses may be toxic).
