  • Marshmallow, slippery elm
  • Eat figs
  • Grape vine leaf tea (gargle)
  • Hawthorn (gargle)
  • Zinc Lozenge: 1 lozenge every 3-4 hours as needed (do not exceed 150 mg zinc daily from all sources) .
  • Slippery Elm Tea: 1 teaspoon per cup of hot water as needed (can substitute or combine with marshmallow root).
  • Sage: gargle & drink the tea
  • Gargle a turnip decoction
  • Gargle: Tea of equal parts slippery elm, raspberry leaf, goldenseal and licorice - cooled to lukewarm).
  • Gargle: 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon turmeric mixed into 8oz of warm water.
  • Gargles using infusions of herbs like fennel, sage, agrimony or raspberry leaf. Alternatively, add 1 teaspoon of tincture to a glass of water - echincacea, thyme or golden seal are effective, but they taste horrible :( 
  • Warm tomato juice and add a little red pepper, honey, salt.  Gargle and sip throughout the day. 
  • Take equal parts honey, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice and gargle or sip often. 
  • Mix 1 Tablespoon vinegar, 1 Tablespoon water and 1/8 teaspoon salt.  Gargle every 30 minutes and swallow a little each time. 
  • Gargle with barberry tea. 
  • Mix 1/4 cup honey and 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar, take 1 Tablespoon every 4 hours. 
  • Mix 1 pint warm water and 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon salt.  Dissolve ingredients together and gargle 2-3 times daily. 
  • Use dried persimmon bark to make a strong tea and gargle with it often. 
  • Strep throat: Make a tea of 1/4 teaspoon myrrh gum, 1/4 teaspoon golden seal, 1 teaspoon of white oak bark.  Gargle as often as possible (warning, does NOT taste good).

  • Vitamin C: 1,000 mg 3 times daily (reduce if it causes diarrhea).
  • Vitamin A: 50,000  twice daily until symptoms improve; if needed after 7 days, reduce to 25,000 IU daily (pregnant women should not exceed 5,000 IU daily).
  • Echinacea: 200 mg 4 times daily (should contain at least 3.5% echinacosides).
  • Garlic: 400-600 mg 4 times daily with food (each pill should provide 4,000 mcg allicin potential).
