**Colitis can be tied to food sensitivities, and different foods may affect people differently, so the below are food recommendations that work for most, but listen to your own body, keep a food journal and pay attention to the foods that cause a reaction.

Not all recipes are nutritionally perfect, but the options below are a great way to start incorporating beneficial foods into your diet in delicious ways. Always try to buy organic, and feel free to make substitutions to accommodate gluten-free, vegan, etc diets.
FOODS TO EAT MORE OF
- Fruits: Anything poached or canned; Applesauce, avocado, cantaloupe, honeydew, and raw ripe bananas
- Vegetables: Asparagus tips, beets, carrots, cucumber, eggplant, green beans, lettuce, okra, onions, mushrooms, parsnips, peas, potato (peeled), red/green peppers, spinach, sweet potato (peeled), squash, turnips, zucchini
- Eggs, fish (especially salmon), poultry, and lean meat
- Whole grains: Millet has been shown to be especially helpful and 1 study showed promise where participants took 1/2 Tablespoon unprocessed bran and 1/2 Tablespoon wheat germ with fluids daily.
- Yogurt, oatmeal
- Rosemary, turmeric
- Plenty of fluids
FOODS TO AVOID OR MINIMIZE
- Fats, oils, high sugar foods, dairy, fatty meats and caffeine
- Cruciferous vegetables: arugula, bok choy, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens
- Seeds, nuts, popcorn, beans & peas
- Alcohol and soda
- Large amounts of black pepper
- Could be related to unrecognized food allergies or sensitivities. Try an ELIMINATION DIET.
ESSENTIAL OILS
- Anise, clove (if bacterial), helichrysum (if viral), peppermint, tarragon, thyme (if infection). Use by diffusing, rubbing on stomach and/or lower back, bottom of feet, full body massage.
HERBAL
- Fenugreek, golden seal, marshmallow, peppermint, rosemary (food amounts, not supplements), slippery elm, turmeric
- Chamomile Tea (3 times daily between meals)
- Wood Avens Tea, Bur Marigold Tea and/or Calendula Tea
NATURAL
- Redmond Clay: This is a bentonite clay that may help clean fecal matter out of colon pockets - take 1 teaspoon in 6-8 ounces of water daily (if you can stomach drinking gray water; if not, buy homemade capsules and swallow the clay that way with 6-8 ounces of water to wash it down). Take at least 2 hours before or after taking other medications, as it could bind to them and reduce their effectiveness. Take for no longer than 1 month without a break.
- Try a tea made from peppermint leaves, fennel seeds, & caraway seeds (1-3 times daily)
- Juice any of the following and drink daily: Carrots, coconut, pear
- Stress reduction - try yoga and meditation
- Fasting can also be helpful
- Eat 3 bananas followed by the contents of 1 cardamom pod daily

SUPPLEMENTS
- Amino Acids: Try 3 grams of Glycine daily
- Evening Primrose Oil: 3,000-6,000 mg daily
- Peppermint Oil: 1-2 capsules 3 times daily between meals (take enteric-coated capsules with 0.2 ml of oil each; start at lower dose and increase if necessary).
- Probiotics
- Vitamin A: 25,000 IU daily for 2 months, then 15,000 IU daily (pregnant women should not exceed 5,000 IU daily).
- Vitamin C: Up to 10,000 mg daily (reduce if causes diarrhea)
- Zinc/ Copper: 50mg zinc up to 3 times daily (add 2 mg copper daily if using zinc longer than 1 month).

- Can represent feelings of having excessively demanding parents or feelings of oppression/defeat.
