Not all recipes are nutritionally perfect, but the options below are a great way to start incorporating beneficial foods into your diet in delicious ways. Always try to buy organic, and feel free to make substitutions to accommodate gluten-free, vegan, etc diets.
- Nonalcoholic fluids to help thin mucus
- Fruits: Apples, apricots, berries (Acai, blueberries, cranberries, and strawberries), grapes, oranges, papayas, pumpkins, tomatoes
- Vegetables: Asparagus, broccoli, carrots, jalapenos, onions, red bell peppers, turnips
- Figs, nuts (especially walnuts), garlic, green tea
- Fatty fish (like salmon, tuna, sardines, mackerel, and trout)
- Lean meat, beans, yogurt, and whole-grain products
- Flaxseeds & flaxseed oil
FOODS TO AVOID OR MINIMIZE
- Smoking, alcohol
- Fatty meat, shellfish, vegetable oils
- Some food sensitivities can affect the lungs, such as dairy, peanuts, MSG and aspartame
ESSENTIAL OILS
- Lung Congestion: Cypress, eucalyptus, pine, rosalina, sage, sandalwood, tea tree (massage back & chest, diffuse)
- Some studies suggest inserting diluted oils into the rectum as the fastest way to affect the lungs. Try mixing one or a blend of the above oils with a gentle carrier oil and inserting into the rectum for at least 15 minutes (overnight if you are able).
